The film was screened at the Casablanca Film Festival and the International Film Festival of India. It won the Filmfare Award for best film. Time Magazine (Europe) selected the film as one of the 10 Best Movies of the Year 2005 from around the globe. The movie was positioned at number five. It also became one of the few Indian films to become a major success in East Asian markets such as China. eventually bringing its overseas total to more than US$65 million — the highest-grossing Bollywood film of all time in overseas markets, before being overtaken by Bajrangi Bhaijaan (2015).
The film is distinctive for featuring real inventions by little-known people in India's backyards. The brains behind the innovations were Remya Jose, a student from Kerala, who created the exercise-bicycle/washing-machine; Mohammad Idris, a barber from Meerut district in Uttar Pradesh, who invented a bicycle-powered horse clipper; and Jahangir Painter, a painter from Maharashtra, who made the scooter-powered flour mill.] This film was remade in Tamil as Nanban (2012) which also received critical praise and commercial success. It has also been announced that there will be a Chinese remake of the film produced by Stephen Chow and that there are plans for a Hollywood remake produced in the United States. A Telugu remake was planned despite Nanban having a Telugu dubbed version titled Snehitudu.

The sequel was announced in May 2012, after the successful release of The Avengers. Whedon, the director of the first film, was brought back on board in August and a release date was set. Second unit filming began in February 2014 in South Africa with principal photography taking place between March and August 2014. The film was primarily shot at Shepperton Studios in Surrey, England, with additional footage filmed in Italy, South Korea, Bangladesh, New York, and various locations around England.
Avengers: Age of Ultron premiered in Los Angeles on April 13, 2015, and was released on May 1, 2015 in North America, in 3D andIMAX 3D. I saw the Malayalam Drishyam first and so the Hindi version did not have the same impact on me. However, the Hindi remake is a faithful copy of the original and so is as riveting.
Vijay Salgaoncar, a cable operator lives a simple life in Goa with his wife and two kids. Their life gets turned upside down when the daughter accidentally kills a boy who is blackmailing her with a video taken of her while taking a bath at a School camp. Unfortunately, the boy is the son of the IG of Police. Vijay’s goal is only to protect his family and to ensure that they are not sent to jail he sets up a plot to outwit the police force. Can a class 4 drop out like him manage to outwit the Police?
The movie is action packed and wastes no time on any fripperies. I just thought that the Rekha Bhardwaj and Rahat Fateh Ali song, although a lovely number, could have been avoided. Music at a time fraught with tension doesn’t go down too well and just make you impatient.
The cast comes together well to keep the movie taut and to establish our sympathies with the characters. Kamlesh Sawant as the nasty Inspector Gaitonde who is keen on destroying Vijay is outstanding. Tabu in her last scene is fantastic though as a hard core cop she could have been a bit more menacing but then that’s only me comparing her with Asha Sarath who plays the cop in the Malyalam version. Tabu’s cop is far more vulnerable and that is her interpretation of the role, which is just as good.
Drishyam is a great watch. It keeps you on the edge of your seat throughout and the climax is a total killer. Go for it!
